Good Friday
I have had a great couple of days. Yesterday we tidied up and today we cleaned. Everywhere looks neat and tidy and clean, to my standards that is – I do have a couple of friends (you know who you are) who always have spotless and very tidy houses and are very welcoming to visitors (how do they manage that?).
Normally on Good Friday we go to church and butter the hot crossed buns ready for the end of the Walk of Witness through Newport. We do this because we support the idea of the walk but because the children get bored walking that distance at a very slow speed and failing to get into the churches along the way as there are too many people to fit in. there is just too much hanging about for them to be happy. So hot crossed bun buttering is what we do.
This year though some of us had been under the weather and other people had volunteered to do the buttering so we stayed at home.
Aside from the tidying we also did some Good Friday Activities too. We watched the Star of Easter Veggietales and decorated Easter eggs. We planed to do many different styles of egg decorating so lots of stuff needed to come out:
While we worked we listed to Swallows and Amazons on the iplayer (don’t you just love the iplayer?). Jonathan loved it and wanted to listen to the next one (there wasn’t one so we’ll have to get an actual book and read it together) while Ruth just moaned about how abridged it was. Ruth was a “late” reader and the swallows and Amazons series was one of the first that she read.
We started with blown eggs covered with tissue paper and PVA.
The next style was drippy wax eggs. There are photos of Rebekah doing it but not Jonathan as i had to keep redirecting the candles so he didn’t drip it on himself!
Then, because we multi-task here, we not only decorate eggs and listening to good quality books but also making hot crossed buns.
Alongside this we had a little science experiment running. rebekah’s tooth fell out and she wondered if it was true that a tooth will dissolve in coke, so we decided to try it out. Then we moved on to painting eggs.
Now it was time to eat the hot crossed buns for a very very late lunch.
Rebekah thought that as you could dunk biscuits perhaps dunking a hot crossed bun would be a good thing to do.
Even martin enjoyed the buns and tea
Lastly we were going to try making felted egg cosies with some polystyrene eggs that a friend sent us. This had the added benefit of removing the tissue paper dye from out fingers!

First you wrap 3 layers of felt round the egg in alternating directions. then wrap it in the toe of an old pair of tights.

Cut them off the eggs and decorate them- Ruth tries needle felting and doesn't injure herself (I do every time I try it)
In the evening Jonathan said to Martin that he had had a very good day and asked if Martin had too. Martin replied that his day had been very productive (he had done the tidying up and our end of year accounts!!!- gotta love him). Jonathan thought for a bit and then said that he had had a good and productive day. I think you can’t have much better than that. Here’s to many many good and productive days.

Here, here!
Looks like you had a lot of fun. Where did you get the egg painting lathe type thingy. I like it. May have to try and improvise one.

So does a tooth dissolve in coke?
Sam we’ve had them for ages, but I think they are German in origin so it’s possible they were from an old OPITEC order or even from Lidl or Aldi at some point – perhaps OPITEC though (resist the temptation Sam!!!).
It hasn’t yet – I was pretty sure it was a myth but thought I’d let her experiment with it.
